Workshops

Come make art with us!  By popular demand we are continuing to offer workshops just around the corner from the beach at our brick & mortar studio in Historic Downtown Cobourg, Ontario!  The perfect opportunity to learn a new skill, or hone your talent, each workshop has an enrollment limit of 6, so you’ll get plenty of individual attention.

Our schedule for workshops is as follows:

Sunday October 6th & Sunday October 13th, 1-5pm: Intro to Lino Block Printing ($120+hst)

In this two part workshop you will learn how to create an image for block printing using negative space and thinking in reverse.  During the first workshop you will create your design and begin carving, finishing the carving during the second session, and printing on paper.

Sunday October 20th & Sunday October 27th, 1-5pm: Mask Making ($120+hst)

In this two part workshop you will learn how to make your own original mask.  In the first session you will sculpt the form for a mask out of clay, and make it in papier mache.  In the second session you will remove your mask from the mould, sand it, decorate it and finally have a finished piece ready to strut on Hallowe’en!

Saturday November 2nd & Saturday November 9th, 1-5pm: Needle Felting Creatures ($120+hst) (NEW SECTION ADDED)

Sunday November 3rd & Sunday November 10th, 1-5pm: Needle Felting Creatures ($120+hst) (SOLD OUT)

In this two part workshop you will design and build a woodland creature using wool and needle felting techniques.  In the first session you will design your creature, build an armature and begin felting the basic shapes.  In the second session you will finish your new friend and, time allowing, maybe give them some charming accessories?

Saturday November 16th, 1-5pm: Indigo Shibori Dyeing ($60+hst)

In this afternoon workshop you will learn about the history of Indigo dyeing, and learn techniques for creating different tie-dye designs. You will work on dyeing cotton muslin (and any cotton t-shirts you want to bring along).

Saturday November 23rd & Saturday November 30th, 1-5pm: Intro to silkscreening ($140+hst)

In this two part workshop you will learn about the basic technique for creating a silkscreen using photo emulsion.  During the first session you will design your image and prepare the screen, and during the second session you will learn how to print using your newly minted screen.

Sunday November 24th, 1-5pm: “Stitch & Bitch” Embroidery for Beginners ($60+hst)

In this afternoon workshop you will learn how to design and fabricate an embroidered image.  In the first session you will lay out your design and draw it onto a piece of fabric, and begin the process of embroidering outlines for the design.  The perfect way to make an intricate and bespoke ornament!

Sunday December 1st & Sunday December 8th, 1-5pm: Lino Block Printing for Holiday Cards ($120+hst)

Saturday December 7th & Saturday December 14th, 1-5pm: ANIMATION!  Intro to Stop Motion – Kids Holiday Edition! ($120+hst)

Have your little ones always wanted to learn to bring drawings or random objects to life?  In this two part workshop kids will learn the basics of stop motion, using a professional camera set up and animation software.  During the first session they will create the players for a short wintery film, and storyboard the animation, and in the second session they’ll bring it to life.  A fun holiday card that you can send to the whole family, near & far!
